There’s nothing better than pointing to something beautiful and saying, “I made that”. So, that’s what I do, in some form or another, pretty much every day.
The best thing I ever made are my three children: my twin daughters Claire and Katherine (9/6/06), and my son Andrew (9/18/08). A home and a family don’t make for very exciting blog posts, but I’m very proud of the work I do there.
I knit, mostly socks and shawls, and do the odd bit of crochet. I quilt, mostly for other people. I make incredibly large messes in the kitchen, but they usually taste good. I’ve been doing various forms of embroidery and needlepoint for a quarter-century now, most recently smocking. I sew, though not yet as well as I would like.
I write code to support the creation of all of the above, and for its own sake. To me, the process of writing software is the next best thing to magic.
I get myself into a lot of trouble by saying, “I bet I could make that”. I’m frequently correct, but it’s usually a lot more complicated than it looks.
I am not very good at sitting still, but fortunately that’s not a problem I often face.
